Ted Kummert, Senior VP, Business Platform Division announced at the PASS Summit 2011 Day One Keynote that the next version of SQL Server will be named SQL Server 2012
SQL Server 2012 will be released in the first quarter of 2012
They are a variety of clients already running in production with CTP 3
I am pretty excited about SQL Server 2012, there are a lot of nice things that I will be able to utilize
Also announced SQL Server and SQL Server Parallel Data Warehouse connectors for Apache Hadoop and Excel add-ins for Apache Hive
As a matter of fact Microsoft will submit to the Apache project to get Hadoop running on Windows.
The CTP of Hadoop on Windows Azure will be available by the end of the year
I wonder if it will get integrated with Dryad in some form or another
SQL Crescent will be called PowerView….I don’t know about that PowerView sounds too close to PowerPivot. PowerView will run on a Windows Phone, iPad2, Android tablet
SQL Server code-named Data Explorer was also announced, it will be available by the end of this year. Data Explorer is self-service BI
