Today I was planning on upgrading my work development machine to win 7, I already installed it at home and I like it much better than Vista.
So I have Vista x64 at work, the Dutch version. I have no idea why I ever chose the Dutch version for this machine but I did it and there is no turning back now. I made a mistake and I will have to suffer for it.
Because I decided to install the English version, which makes for easier googling if you ever get an error, Win7 decided ...
Every time you buy a new computer you of course need to install a bunch of software. In my case this would be stuff mostly from MSDN
Visual Studio 2008 + Service pack 1
SQL Server 2008 + Service pack 1
Expression Studio 2
Win XP SP 3 (to run on a virtual machine)
Windows 7 RC (to run on a virtual machine)
Visual Studio 2010 (to run inside the Win 7 virtual machine)
Office 2007 Ultimate
The nice thing about Virtual machines is that you can mount an ISO right inside the machine, this way you don't have to burn a CD or install a ISO...
I have the FS T1010 for 3 weeks now so this is just a first impression.
First a little about the configuration, which I think is quite impressive considering its size.
It has an Intel P8400 processor on board with 3 GB of Ram and a 300GB HD
It gets a pretty good score from the windows experience index, namely 3.8. And this is due to the gaming graphics score. Since this is not a machine you will buy for gaming, it is a non-issue.

So I just got a brand new shiny QuadCore PC with 6GB of RAM and Vista on it. I decided to setup ReadyBoost since I have a couple of USB dongles laying around.
How does ReadyBoost work? Here is what Wikipedia has to say
Using ReadyBoost-capable flash memory (NAND memory devices) for caching allows Windows Vista to service random disk reads with performance that is typically 80-100 times faster than random reads from traditional hard drives. This caching applies to all disk content, not just the page file or sy...
All my users use Windows XP for now, they have no say in the matter. But me I use Vista 64bits. So I test my application on that. And I have a few VMs to test the windows XP behaviour and try and make them work on both. And sometimes you get to deal with the increased security in ista or Windows 7. For instance you are no longer allowed to write in the Program files folder. So I had to find another place to write my application specific ini file. I know I should have moved it long ago. But now is a good a time as any.
But apparently I can write things to the CommonApplicationData Fold...
